Coin Magic – Triple Threat and 3CM Alternative

Let me start out by saying I want a Todd Lassen Triple Threat and a Jamie Schoolcraft 3CM.

I just can’t justify the $450 price tag.

I’ve got both volumes from Troy Hooser’s series – Destroyers and Momments and I’m looking forward to working through the coin magic material using a Triple Threat or 3CM Gimmick.

While I’m practicing, I can’t justify the $450 price tag just yet.

(If Todd or Jamie are reading this post, let me reiterate, I want a set)

But after all, when you first learn guitar, you don’t buy a $2000 Gibson Les Paul do you?

So I found an excellent alternative at a reasonable price.

I wrote a post a few months back regarding Ton Onosaka’s Japanese Coins and I recently purchased their dollar sized Old Japanese Coin Set.

The coin set consists of:

  • 4 Dollar Sized Japanese Coins
  • 1 Dollar Sized Expanded Shell
  • 1 Dollar Sized Super Expanded Shell

The pictures below show the two shells and the single coin in a row.  The second picture shows the stacked set with the set nested side up.  From even a close-up distance, the nested side looks fine in casual handling.  After all you really shouldn’t be flashing the nested side anyway.  Take a look at the detailed pictures below and be sure to zoom in on them.

Grand Total:  $73.00

For some $73 bucks is pricey for just a coin trick, but what magic prop isn’t expensive?  If you bought a expanded shell and another super expanded shell, you’d be in the same price ranges.  Plus you get four dollar sized Japanese coins just ready for Spellbound or a Copper/Silver Transposition variant.  Below is a brief video of the set.

Buy it

I’d consider this set a good training set to work on before you move into the higher priced coin gaffs.  If I drop one and the rim bends, I’d feel a lot less worse than if my 3CM or Triple Threat set broke.  You can get them here:
