The first time I ever experienced that magic “moment” was when I met Dr. Andy at the hospital where my mom worked and he pulled a coin out of my ear, threw it away and made it reappear. I think I was maybe 6 or 7 years old and that was one of the moments that sparked my interest in magic.
I followed the typical path of a budding magician – acquiring magic sets, visiting magic shops and spending money earned from allowances, paper routes and outright begging on anything magic related. Over 30+ years of pursuing this hobby, I’ve acquired numerous mystical boxes with Chinese letters, aluminum pans with secret compartments, trick decks and a countless cornucopia of magical odds and ends (with and without instructions)
Despite all the overflowing boxes of props, library of books and stacks of DVDs that teach a lifetime of magic, the magical moment of Dr. Andy pulling a coin from my ear, vanishing it and making it reappear made a lasting impression. As a magician “in the know”, its hard to experience that magic “moment” again.
